Xbox 360 Rock Band Keyboard as MIDI Issues.

Hey guys, I've scoured the internet all day looking for help on this issue and nothing seems to solve it. So I come to you guys in hopes of an answer.

I have a MIDI to USB adapter that I wanted to plug my 360 keyboard into my PC and use it as a MIDI keyboard. I have a couple of proper programs and everything that are confirmed to work. However, I cannot seem to get the keyboard controller to function properly on my PC. When I plug it in USB the computer detects it as a MIDI device, but my wireless keyboard won't work in any of the programs.

I'm pretty sure the keyboard isn't turning on correctly. When I press the guide button to turn the keyboard on, it just flashes as if it is looking for an Xbox 360 and it never actually displays the little red LED light as player one. I've seen videos online of people using the same controller and it lights up as if player one is connected so I know it should be doing that.

Anybody know what I am doing wrong? As a summary, my keyboard just keeps searching for an Xbox and won't actually turn on for my PC. I have 360 controller drivers on my PC too but that is irrelevant since I'm using it as a MIDI device and not a game controller.

    Thanks for any help!

I believe that you have to press and hold the START button. The first of the four red LEDS will light up.

EDIT: I found this Keyboard MIDI User Guide; on page 10 it says to press and hold the GUIDE button for 2 seconds and press and hold it for 2 seconds again to turn it off. I tried that using an E-MU X-MIDI 1x1 Tab cable and that works for me (as well as the START button, but you can't turn it off with that).

I tested it with the freeware MIDI-OX utility and it worked fine.

None of that worked for me unfortunately. The Xbox circle just keeps blinking green and won't shut off or anything. The start button doesn't work either.

Once you get into that flashing guide button state you have to remove the batteries. Have you done that and tried again?

Yep I tried that too. If I have the MIDI cable plugged in and I remove the batteries, it won't even allow the keyboard to turn on. If I remove the MIDI cable, then put the batteries back in, plug MIDI back in, THEN turn it on (using both start and guide button methods) it still just sits and flashes.

There's no power on 5-DIN MIDI that I'm aware of so I'm not surprised that it doesn't work without batteries. Are you sure that the cable works alright? Can you use it to plug other MIDI devices into your computer?

Otherwise I don't know what to tell you. The instructions in the manual all work for me. I got my keyboard a couple of weeks before launch in a bundle with the game that wasn't supposed to be sold that early. Played around with it until I got my Mustang and haven't really touched it since then.

Some people have tried to use the MIDI adapter that was for the Guitar Hero drums or something, but that doesn't work right. What USB->MIDI adapter are you using?

Have you got it plugged into the correct part of the adapter? Some adapters have both IN and OUT MIDI connectors. You need to be plugged into the IN lead.

Also of note, a MIDI adapter is not just a cable, it's a device. I assume you knew this, but it doesn't hurt to be sure. I have not had any problems with my keyboard working with my PC. Hell, I even took the RB3 keyboard and hooked it into the Midi Pro Adapter and it worked just fine in RB3 (the touchpad didn't work, though... It was just an experiment anyway.)

You should have your MIDI adapter set up on your PC (installed and drivers updated) before you attach the keyboard to it. And as stated above, you must cable the keyboard's MIDI OUT to your adapter's MIDI IN.

Well, there lies the issue. I am using the Guitar Hero drum MIDI adapter. Looks like I'm going to have to actually BUY an adapter then (sheesh). Thanks guys!
